Life Balance Resources

I don’t really believe in work-life-balance, but I do believe strongly in seeking a centeredness in your life that allows you to make choices, focus on what success means to you, and to find some peace in your life.

What works is different for each of us; these are a few sources I’ve found inspiring. Perhaps they’ll help you, too.

Five Good Minutes – 100 Morning Practices to Help You Stay Calm and Focused All Day Long – Jeffrey Brantley M.D., Wendy Millstine, Wendy-O Matik. There’s a whole series of Five Good Minutes books – I recommend them for those quick, inspirational moments of focus that we all need.

Mindfulness for Beginners: Reclaiming the Present Moment  – and Your Life. Jon Kabat-Zin. If you’ve ever considered mindfulness meditation but didn’t think you could, this is worth a try. It comes with some guided meditations on CD.

The Happiness Project and Happier at Home – Gretchen Rubin. Full disclosure: I’m a fan. These books get a read-over from me every 12 – 18 months. For the quotes alone, they’re worth it. Check out Gretchen Rubin’s blog, as well.

Shambala Sun Magazine. I always find something right-on between these covers.
